How to Measure Yourself
A precise fit begins with an accurate measurement. Using a soft measuring tape and, ideally, the help of another person, take each measurement below and compare the results against the size chart for your chosen garment. Stand naturally, breathe normally, and let the tape rest against the body without pulling it tight.
- Chest: Pass the tape around the fullest part of your chest, keeping it level and just under the arms across the shoulder blades at the back.
- Waist: Measure around your natural waistline — the narrowest point of the torso, roughly level with the navel — without holding your breath.
- Hips: Wrap the tape around the widest part of your hips and seat, keeping your feet together and the tape parallel to the floor.
- Inseam: Measure along the inside of the leg, from the top of the inner thigh down to the ankle bone. A well-fitting pair of trousers laid flat gives a reliable reference.
- Sleeve / Arm length: With the arm relaxed and slightly bent, measure from the centre back of the neck, across the shoulder, and down to the wrist bone.
- Neck: Place the tape around the base of the neck where a collar would sit, allowing a finger's width of ease for comfort.
- Shoulder: Measure straight across the back from the outer edge of one shoulder seam to the other, following the natural line where the shoulder meets the arm.
Tip: Measure over light clothing or bare skin for the truest result, and keep the tape snug but never tight. Above all, hold it level and parallel to the floor throughout — a tape that dips or twists is the most common cause of an inaccurate fit.
Size Guide — Trousers & Pants
Every pair of Begmenov trousers is drafted to a house block refined over a decade of tailoring, cut to sit cleanly at the waist and fall with a quiet, considered line. The measurements below will help you choose the size that flatters your proportions and honours the garment's intended silhouette.
How to measure
Measure over light clothing with a soft tape held level and unstretched. For the most reliable result, compare these figures against a pair of trousers you already wear and love.
- Waist — measure around your natural waistline, where the trouser is designed to sit, keeping one finger's ease under the tape.
- Hip — measure around the fullest part of your seat, with your feet together.
- Inseam — measure along the inner leg, from the crotch seam down to the desired hem.
- Thigh — measure around the widest part of the upper leg, roughly one inch below the crotch.
- Front rise — measure from the top of the waistband down to the crotch seam along the front.

Fit tips
- Between two sizes? Size up for a relaxed, easy drape, or stay true to size for a trimmer, more tailored line.
- Regular vs. slim. Our regular fit allows a touch more room through the seat and thigh; the slim fit tapers closer to the leg — order your usual size in either, as both are cut from the same waist block.
- Waistband ease. The waist is finished to sit comfortably with a single finger's room; a leather belt refines the fit without pulling.
- Hemming. Inseams are cut generously so your tailor can finish the break exactly to your shoe and height.
Shirts — Size Guide
Every Begmenov shirt is cut to a considered proportion — clean through the body, precise at the collar, generous where movement demands it. The guide below helps you find the size that sits as intended: close but never constrained, refined without compromise. When in doubt, measure a shirt you already trust and compare the numbers rather than guessing.
How to measure
Use a soft tape measure and keep it level against the body. Measure over a thin base layer, not over another shirt, and stand relaxed with arms at your sides.
- Neck — measure around the base of the neck where the collar naturally sits, leaving room for one finger between tape and skin.
- Chest — measure around the fullest part of the chest, under the arms and across the shoulder blades, keeping the tape parallel to the floor.
- Waist — measure around the natural waistline, roughly level with the navel, without pulling the tape tight.
- Shoulder — measure across the back from the seam of one shoulder to the other, following the line where the sleeve joins the body.
- Sleeve length — with the arm slightly bent, measure from the shoulder seam along the outer arm to the wristbone.

Measurements refer to the body, not the finished garment. Individual styles carry a small amount of ease appropriate to their cut.
Fit tips
- Between sizes? Size up for an easy, relaxed drape; stay with the smaller size for a sharper, closer line.
- Regular vs. slim. Our regular fit allows a natural taper with room through the chest and waist; the slim fit follows the torso more closely — if you prefer a trimmer silhouette in a regular cut, consider sizing down.
- Collar first. Let the neck measurement guide your choice for dress shirts — a well-set collar defines the whole garment, and the body can be tailored around it.
- Layering. If you routinely wear a shirt beneath knitwear or tailoring, favour the larger size for cleaner lines through the shoulders and back.
Size Guide — Polos & T-Shirts
Our polos and t-shirts are cut for an easy, considered fit — close enough to flatter, relaxed enough to live in. The measurements below are taken from the garment and translated to the body, so you can find your size with confidence. When in doubt, measure a piece you already love and lay it flat for the truest comparison.
How to measure
- Chest — measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape level under the arms and across the shoulder blades.
- Waist — measure around your natural waistline, at the narrowest point above the hips.
- Shoulder — measure across the back, from the tip of one shoulder seam to the other.
- Length — measure from the highest point of the shoulder straight down to the desired hem.
- Sleeve — measure from the shoulder seam to the end of the sleeve opening.

Fit tips
- Our polos and t-shirts run true to size with a clean regular fit — take your usual size for a tailored-but-easy silhouette.
- Between two sizes? Size down for a sharper, closer cut, or size up for a softer, more relaxed drape.
- Prefer a slim look? Choose the smaller size; the fine-gauge cotton gives gently through the day without losing shape.
- Our jersey and piqué are pre-shrunk, so the fit you feel in the fitting room is the fit you keep wash after wash.
Size Guide — Knitwear & Sweaters
Our knitwear is cut for an easy, considered drape — close enough to hold its line, generous enough to layer with ease. For the truest fit, measure a well-fitting sweater you already own and lay it flat, then compare against the chart below.
How to measure
- Chest — measure across the fullest part of the chest, from underarm to underarm, and double the figure.
- Waist — measure the narrowest point of the natural waistline, keeping the tape level.
- Shoulder — measure across the back from the outer edge of one shoulder seam to the other.
- Length — measure straight down the centre back, from the base of the collar to the hem.
- Sleeve — measure from the shoulder seam along the outer arm to the cuff.

Fit tips
- Between sizes? Size down for a trim, close-to-body silhouette; size up if you prefer a relaxed drape or intend to layer over a shirt.
- Fine-gauge merino and cotton pieces sit closer to the body — choose your true size for a tailored line.
- Chunkier and mid-gauge knits wear slightly fuller through the chest; those who like a leaner fit may prefer the size below.
- Our natural fibres relax gently with wear — the sweater will soften and settle to your frame over time.
Jackets & Coats — Size Guide
Every Begmenov jacket and coat is cut to sit close to the body while allowing the ease a tailored garment demands. Use the measurements below to find your size — and when a piece is meant to be layered, consider how it will fall over a shirt or fine knit.
How to measure
Measure over a light shirt, keeping the tape level and comfortably snug — never tight.
- Chest — around the fullest part of the chest, under the arms and across the shoulder blades.
- Waist — around the natural waistline, just above the hip bones.
- Shoulder — straight across the back, from the seam at one shoulder point to the other.
- Sleeve — from the shoulder seam, along the outside of a slightly bent arm, to the wrist bone.
- Back length — from the base of the collar seam down the centre back to the hem.

Fit tips
- Between sizes? For a tailored jacket worn over a shirt, size down for a cleaner line; for an overcoat meant to layer over knitwear, size up.
- Regular vs. slim. Our tailored jackets follow a slim, close-to-body cut through the chest and waist — if you prefer more room, take the next size up.
- Shoulders lead. The shoulder is the hardest point to alter, so prioritise a clean shoulder fit; the waist and sleeve can be adjusted by a tailor.
- Coats over jackets. If a coat will be worn over a suit jacket, allow one size of ease so it drapes without pulling across the chest.
Belts & Accessories Size Guide
A belt should sit with quiet assurance — never straining, never surplus. At Begmenov, every belt is cut and finished to complement our tailoring, with the buckle resting at the centre hole for a considered, balanced line. The guidance below helps you select a size that will wear beautifully for years.
How to measure
- Trouser waist (preferred): Take your true trouser waist size and add roughly 5 cm (2 inches). A 34" trouser therefore pairs with a size L / 36" belt, allowing the pin to fasten at the middle hole.
- Existing belt: Lay a belt you wear comfortably flat and measure from the buckle fold to the hole you use most. Match that length to the "Centre hole" column below.
- Waist over trousers: If buying without a trouser reference, measure around the waist over the trousers, at the height the belt will sit, keeping the tape level and gently taut.
- Accessories (wallets, ties, small leather goods): Offered one size; no measurement required.
Size chart
| Size | Trouser waist | Centre hole length | Total belt length |
|---|---|---|---|
| XS | 71–76 cm / 28–30" | 81 cm / 32" | 96 cm / 38" |
| S | 76–81 cm / 30–32" | 86 cm / 34" | 101 cm / 40" |
| M | 81–86 cm / 32–34" | 91 cm / 36" | 106 cm / 42" |
| L | 86–91 cm / 34–36" | 96 cm / 38" | 111 cm / 44" |
| XL | 91–99 cm / 36–39" | 101 cm / 40" | 116 cm / 46" |
| XXL | 99–107 cm / 39–42" | 106 cm / 42" | 122 cm / 48" |
Fit tips
- Always size up from your trouser waist. A belt measured to the buckle end will run short; adding two inches lets the pin settle at the centre hole — the mark of a correct fit.
- Between sizes? Choose the larger size. Leather eases and softens with wear, and the outer holes give room to adjust.
- Dress versus casual. For a slim dress belt worn with tailoring, fasten at the centre hole. A wider casual belt may sit one hole looser for comfort over knitwear.
- Mind the tail. The end should reach your first belt loop and no further — a sign the length is true to your waist.
